This course, organised in collaboration with the Andalusian Institute of Historical Heritage and the professional association Taph Taph, will take place from 21 September to 29 October 2026 in spanish and in a blended learning format, with the two weeks of face-to-face teaching concentrated at the end of September in Seville.
The main aim of this course is to train various professionals from the fields of architecture and construction in the fundamental principles of earth as a building material, so that they can incorporate this material into their current practice, in terms of both knowledge and practical skills.
The course, comprising a total of 77 teaching hours, is structured into individual modules so that participants can choose from several options, depending on their areas of interest.
Module A is delivered face-to-face and comprises the following modules:
- A1. From raw material to building material
- A2. Earthen buildings
- A3. Experiments
Module B is delivered via distance learning and comprises the following modules:
- B4. Earthen building traditions.
- B5. Key aspects of the design and analysis of contemporary and historic earthen buildings.
- B6. The world of work.
This course is aimed at both construction professionals and students of architecture, engineering, archaeology, restoration or conservation, amongst others.
The course is structured around a range of teaching methods, such as lectures, practical workshops, technical visits, professional discussions and the use of an online learning platform, which includes a dedicated Q&A forum.
