CRAterre Publishing is pleased to announce the publication of the book ‘(Re)building in Haiti 2019–2024: supporting the development of the TCLA sector in Haiti’.
The TCLA approach was developed in the wake of the January 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Its aim is to contribute to the provision of affordable, resilient and environmentally responsible housing by adopting a holistic approach designed to ensure that every construction project is adapted to the local context and the needs expressed by residents, drawing on local construction expertise (knowledge and know-how) and locally available resources to provide accessible and sustainable solutions for communities.
In 2019, the TCLA approach in Haiti was championed by numerous Haitian and international organisations. However, the sector still required support to cope with the growing demand and to better adapt to the diversity of contexts. Outside of post-natural disaster emergency periods, the TCLA sector needed to be structured as part of a strategy for disaster preparedness, building the resilience of Haitian communities and, above all, contributing to the provision of affordable and eco-responsible housing, particularly for the most vulnerable groups.
