Objectives

In response to the social, cultural, environmental and economic issues surrounding housing, the KEMET Bâtisseur association is working on a project to set up a raw earth materials factory in Martinique. The aim of the project is to offer building solutions that are sustainable, accessible and locally rooted, while involving local residents in the transformation of their living environment.

Carried out in 2023 and 2024 with the support of CRAterre and ADEME, a feasibility study analysed the integration of this factory into its local context, assessed raw material resources, defined the planning stages, developed an economic model and analysed the environmental impact of the materials produced.

The study stresses the importance of developing this sector in stages, taking into account the specific characteristics of the region, the current lack of local producers, and the need to combine training, awareness-raising and technical validation initiatives. The production facilities envisaged are based on lines that are scalable, robust and easy to maintain, adapted to a demand that is still emerging but has strong prospects.
