The first edition of the Forum du French-speaking Emergency Housing Network, to be held on 1, 2 and 3 July 2025 in Lomé, Togo, in a hybrid format, in partnership with the Ecole Africaine des Métiers de l'Architecture et de l'Urbanisme (EAMAU).

Faced with new financial and operational constraints, particularly in French-speaking countries confronted with the most neglected and underfunded humanitarian crises, it is more essential than ever for players in the Shelter & Habitat sector to strengthen their exchanges and cooperation in order to find appropriate solutions.We are offering three days to refine a shared vision around a central theme: Rethinking emergency shelter assistance in the French-speaking world: Uniting players, Innovating and Acting sustainably.

Three days to :

  • Develop strategic thinking to meet the challenges facing the sector.
  • Exchange promising experiences and practices.
  • Co-construct concrete solutions and strengthen the dynamics of a committed French-speaking community.

Call for papers

The organising committee has chosen the following theme for this Forum: Rethinking emergency housing assistance in the French-speaking world: uniting players, innovating and acting sustainably. One day will be devoted to sharing experiences and innovative practices. To mark the occasion, the committee is issuing a call for papers on the following topics:

  • Localisation and local capacity-building for the design and management of emergency habitats
  • Territorial approach and intersectoral working methods
  • Self-building and Local Building Cultures
  • Transition from emergency to sustainable solutions
  • Financing humanitarian housing in a context of budgetary constraints
  • Cash transfer assistance for emergency housing
  • Housing, land and property: land issues in an emergency context
  • Adapting emergency housing solutions to climate change
  • Strengthening links between those involved in emergency housing and the academic world
  • Population displacement in urban areas: challenges and solutions

Submissions will be selected on the basis of their relevance to the forum's themes, their added value and innovation, their potential impact and applicability, the clarity and quality of the proposal, the diversity of approaches and players represented, and the feasibility and commitment of the contributor.

Call for exhibitions

An exhibition room will be available to participants during the three days of the Forum, offering interested organisations the opportunity to present their work, distribute publications or highlight a current initiative.

Tables and exhibition panels will be available and allocated according to a selection process, should the number of applications exceed the number of spaces available. Printing, transport and installation of presentations are the responsibility of the participants. You will be responsible for all these arrangements.
