CRAterre-ensag was accredited as a research laboratory in 1986.
In 2010, the CRAterre Laboratory (CRAterre-ENSAG) joined forces with the "Constructive Cultures" Laboratory to form the AE&CC "Architecture, Environment and Constructive Culture" Research Unit, now accredited as a Host Team by the HCERES (EA 7444).
In 2011, AE&CC was awarded the status of Laboratory of Excellence (Labex), a label it will enjoy until December 2019. On the strength of a positive interim evaluation, AE&CC has been invited to propose a 5-year renewal within the framework of the Grenoble IDEX, with the prospect of active participation in Grenoble's new integrated university: "Univ. Grenoble Alpes, Université de l'innovation".
