Objectives

  • Develop a method for analyzing the deterioration suffered by houses during the earthquake, and qualify local players so that they can subsequently carry out this activity independently.
  • Identify and describe technical and architectural solutions adapted to people's needs in terms of home repair/reconstruction/improvement.
  • Put into practice the technical solutions envisaged for the repair/partial reconstruction of one or more of the houses used in the diagnostic study.
  • In the course of this pilot project, and on the basis of these lessons learned, help PAPDA (Plateforme Haïtienne de Plaidoyer pour un Développement Alternatif) and VEDEK (Vive Espoir pour le Développement de Cap Rouge) to define and develop the strategies needed to complete the repair / reconstruction project submitted to Secours Catholique / Caritas France.

The aim was to provide VEDEK with the tools and strategies to implement a program to rebuild 100 houses.

Results

  • Technical solutions for improving local housing are available to local populations.
  • Tools to help implement the project to rebuild 100 homes are being developed and tested.
  • 20 local craftsmen are trained.
  • 5 houses are rebuilt.
  • The project document for the reconstruction of 100 houses has been drawn up with the benefit of the experience gained during this pilot phase.
