Objectives

The aim of the first field mission in September 2021 was to carry out a context analysis of Badi and its region (Tambacounda), in order to obtain the practical and technical information needed to guide the design and facilitate the implementation of the project.

For the past three years, Sept-Fons Abbey has been helping to set up a foundation in Senegal. A plot of land has been acquired, on which a few buildings have already been erected to enable a small community of monks to live in descent, and then to start farming. The project is in the pre-design phase, and the owner's wish is to use local soil and materials for construction. The Abbaye de Sept-Fons has an architect - Pierre SAALSBOURG - who is not, however, familiar with earth construction techniques. As a result, the mission entrusted to CRAterre by the Abbaye de Sept-Fons is to provide technical support for the feasibility of the project, and to help define the technical choices required for the design and construction of the buildings, ideally in line with the human and structural potential available in the region.
