Objectives

Raw earth masonry construction is at the heart of a strong dynamic for its environmental, logistical, social and comfort benefits. Despite this, it continues to face a number of obstacles, both in France and internationally, particularly in relation to the validation of its mechanical, fire and hygrothermal performance. These obstacles are not so much technical as logistical and financial, as the tests required are both expensive and time-consuming.

To overcome these obstacles, ADEME (Agence de la Transition Ecologique) is supporting the B2M project, the main aim of which is to improve the characterisation of raw earth masonry. The project brings together experts in the use of raw earth masonry and in its mechanical, hygrothermal and fire behaviour. The main aim of the project is to provide professionals in the field of raw earth construction with technical data that can be used directly and that is consistent with the dimensioning and validation rules for masonry structures that are customary in Europe (Eurocodes type).
