CONTEXT
The Terra Livha – Living Harmony Association is creating an eco-village in Garvão, Ourique (Alentejo), in a project that includes the rehabilitation of an existing building, in load-bearing rammed earth, with approximately 300m2 (see https://terralivha.pt/in-pictures/). The building’s roof is in very poor condition, requiring urgent intervention to avoid compromising the rammed earth walls. Therefore, Livha will carry out work to replace the roof (wooden structure and ceramic tiles). This operation is included in the category of conservation works, and thus exempt from licensing and will be carried out in self-construction. To this end, Livha is recruiting people wanting to join the construction site for the consolidation of the upper top of the rammed earth walls.
PROGRAM
The work for which this call for proposals is intended only aims to treat the upper part of the rammed earth walls of the existing building, with the purpose of providing these walls with conditions for the subsequent installation of a new roof, and does not include any work to remove the existing covering, or to sort and clean the elements for reuse, nor to prepare or install the new roof.
COORDINATION
The technical and operational coordination of the works will be carried out by architect Miguel Ferreira Mendes, with the support of architect Etienne Samin and builder Igor Cerejo, all professionals with experience in earth construction.
SCHEDULE
The work will take place between August 13 and 30, 2025, from Monday to Saturday, with a break on Sundays, and on a Schedule adapted to the high temperatures expected for the area and time of year:
- morning period: 7am-12pm
- afternoon period: 5pm-7pm
CONDITIONS
Livha provides
- pick up at Funcheira train station (4km from the land).
- camping accommodation (tent, caravan) on site, with functional facilities for toilets, showers, etc.
- food (vegetarian) with 4 meals a day (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner).
- daily financial compensation.
Livha requires
- compliance with working schedule
- respect for technical instructions and safety rules on site
SELECTION CRITERIA
Open to everyone, regardless of origin, age, gender, or any other aspects. Even so, and depending on the number of interested parties, a selection of candidates may have to be made in order to guarantee a universe of participants compatible with the existing means. This selection will prioritize candidates with more experience and who intend to participate in the project for a longer period of time.
