REGIO EARTH is an itinerary summer school about earthen architecture, design and art. The festival moves every year in Romania, Hungary, Serbia and connects the earth lovers and specialists from Central and South-Eastern Europe.
This edition of the summer school is part of the project "A Cultural Journey in the Lands of Banat", that offers an alternative way of communicating intangible heritage related to the creative processing of local earth, using accessible language and a fresh, interdisciplinary perspective. The project's activities aim to initiate a specialized applied research process and transmit technical knowledge regarding building with earth to the general public. This involves extracting a varied chromatic palette of soils from different areas of Banat, creating audio-visual documentation of the construction techniques developed around them, and exploring these through residencies, workshops, and a multisensory exhibition in the center of Timișoara. The online publication of trilingual documentary material and the exhibition's tour in Italy ensure international access to the cultural assets generated by the project.
Practical info:
- Location of the workshops: an outdoor green space of the West University of Timișoara, Faculty of Arts and Design, in the center of the city.
- Accommodation in shared rooms: the student dormitories of the West University of Timișoara, 20 minutes walk from the summer school site.
- The culinary experience will be curated by the organiser My Banat and will highlight local, seasonal products.
- Language: The official language of the festival, including all professional sessions and workshops, is English.
