Issue 5 of African Cities Magazine highlights innovative community projects in African cities. This issue explores initiatives to empower residents, improve urban infrastructure and foster sustainable and resilient development in African cities.

One of the projects presented concerns the structuring of a confederation of residents in West Africa. Led by local community associations and organisations, the initiative aims to empower local residents and make their voices heard at local, national and international level. Inspired by the Slum Dwellers International (SDI) model, this approach seeks to bring together residents of precarious neighbourhoods to conduct joint advocacy. The main objectives include social inclusion, local economic development and the promotion of environmental resilience in the face of the challenges of climate change.
