The documentation center<\/strong><\/h1><\/div><\/div><\/div>

A unique collection on earthen architecture and local building cultures<\/strong><\/i><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The management of the documentation centre has been assured alternately by the association and the laboratory. Its documentary collection, constituted since the seventies by the founders of CRAterre, has over time been enriched with scientific and technical productions of the members of the research team and the association as well as by new acquisitions and donations of partners.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

This collection indeed gathers nearly 20 000 documents<\/b> in the fields ofearthen architecture<\/b> and local building cultures<\/b> as well as other linked themes as for example vernacular architecture, building techniques with natural materials, improvement of the habitat, reduction of natural risks, archaeology, heritage conservation, world heritage, ecology, climate change, project planning and management, etc. The collection also covers over 150 countries and contains documents in 25 different languages.<\/p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Educational tools<\/strong><\/h1><\/div>

For 45 years, the members of CRAterre have been working for the dissemination of science, technology, art and culture as a way to act with the young generations and the general public. The aim is to allow them to discover new horizons, to deepen their knowledge in specific fields and to provide them with the necessary tools to observe, understand and analyze the world surrounding them. The objective is also to encourage the public to explore new ways of interacting with the material, the living and the Earth.<\/p>\n

With this aim in mind, CRAterre has developed original and innovative pedagogical tools like the pedagogical kit \u00c9l\u00e9menTerre, the Plan\u00e9\u2019Terre programme, the artistic workshop Matter & Emotions and a pedagogical kit on seismic risks.<\/p><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Plan\u00e9'terre program<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Plan\u00e9\u2019Terre is a programme designed to raise awareness and promote discovery around the material earth<\/b>its uses in architecture and the issues it raises in relation to the environment, heritage and ecological transition. Designed as an educational, scientific and artistic initiative, it is aimed at a wide audience: schoolchildren, teachers, charity volunteers, professionals and curious minds of all ages. Each workshop can be offered independently or integrated into an educational programme built around the school year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Organised into 22 workshops \u2013 sensory, scientific, technical, artistic, writing or theatre \u2013 Plan\u00e9\u2019terre invites participants to explore earth in all its dimensions. The aim is to raise cultural and environmental awareness while promoting earthen architectural heritage.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Elementerre educational kit<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>

The \u00c9l\u00e9menterre kit is an educational tool developed by CRAterre for students, professionals, the general public and schoolchildren. It allows participants to discover the properties of earth as a building material <\/b>and understand why and how it can be used in construction.<\/b>Through a series of interactive and counterintuitive experiments on granular material, participants are invited to carry out simple scientific experiments to discover the composition and properties of earth, a material that is so common yet so little recognised. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

Matter & Emotions Workshop<\/strong><\/h3><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Following on from the Plan\u00e9\u2019Terre programme, the Mati\u00e8re & \u00c9motions workshop proposes a sensory, artistic and expressive experience around the material of earth<\/b>. Designed to link scientific discovery with physical and poetic expression, this workshop invites participants \u2013 especially children \u2013 to feel, manipulate, describe, create and narrate.<\/p>\n
