Le projet visant \u00e0 identifier, prot\u00e9ger et promouvoir les ressources patrimoniales de Kilwa au sud de la Tanzanie se poursuit. Le premier semestre 2015 a \u00e9t\u00e9 marqu\u00e9 par la construction du centre d\u2019information destin\u00e9 \u00e0 promouvoir les sites inventori\u00e9s en 2014. Id\u00e9alement situ\u00e9 sur la place du march\u00e9 de Kilwa, \u00e0 l\u2019endroit o\u00f9 les bus d\u00e9posent les visiteurs, ce centre sera \u00e9galement un point pour la vente de produits culinaires (sel, miel, p\u00e2tisseries\u2026) et artisanaux (sculpture, couture, vannerie\u2026). La gestion du centre revient \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9quipe des guides touristiques de la ville sous la supervision de l\u2019administration locale. Deux membres de cette administration ont b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 au d\u00e9but de ce mois de septembre 2015 d\u2019une formation en France, dispens\u00e9e par la Communaut\u00e9 d\u2019agglom\u00e9ration Rochefort Oc\u00e9an, partenaire du projet. Sur le plan architectural, ce b\u00e2timent est une vitrine des ressources et savoir-faire de la ville. Con\u00e7u par l\u2019architecte Arnaud Misse, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit par 25 personnes en 7 semaines, sous la supervision de l\u2019architecte Nuria S\u00e1nchez Mu\u00f1oz. Les principaux mat\u00e9riaux utilis\u00e9s sont la pierre pour les murs ma\u00e7onn\u00e9e avec de la chaux fabriqu\u00e9e artisanalement sur place, la terre pour les enduits, le bois pour les ouvertures et la charpente, le bambou et les feuilles de palmier. Nous souhaitions au travers du projet d\u00e9montrer que les techniques constructives utilis\u00e9es depuis plus de 1000 ans sur place peuvent produire une architecture contemporaine. Le b\u00e2timent a co\u00fbt\u00e9 26 millions de shillings, soit 13,500 euros. Cet argent a presque enti\u00e8rement b\u00e9n\u00e9fici\u00e9 \u00e0 la population, soit sous forme de main d\u2019\u0153uvre, soit sous forme de production locale de mat\u00e9riaux (taille de pierres, tissage de nattes pour les plafonds par exemple). Seules quelques barres d\u2019acier import\u00e9es ont \u00e9t\u00e9 int\u00e9gr\u00e9es dans un cha\u00eenage bas, tous les autres mat\u00e9riaux proviennent de Kilwa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Another result of the first half-year was the design of a leaflet presenting Kilwa, which will be distributed by the Tanzania Tourist Board at international tourism fairs in Africa, Europe and Asia. The brochure, in three languages (English, Kiswahili and French), was produced by the Communaut\u00e9 d'agglom\u00e9ration Rochefort Oc\u00e9an and the Fouras tourist office.<\/p>\n

Le projet doit se poursuivre jusqu\u2019en Septembre 2016. La derni\u00e8re ann\u00e9e sera consacr\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9nagement de certains sites touristiques, \u00e0 la production d\u2019une exposition, \u00e0 la conception de mat\u00e9riel promotionnel et \u00e0 l\u2019am\u00e9lioration de chambres d\u2019h\u00f4tes dans les villages de l\u2019int\u00e9rieur du district.<\/p>\n

This three-year project, which began in September 2013, has just come to an end. This adventure touched several hundred people in the Kilwa district and gave a major boost to tourism development in their area. The project was led by CRAterre, supported by two Tanzanian partners: Kilwa District Council and Kilwa Masoko Township Authority and a French partner: Rochefort Oc\u00e9an. Funding was provided by the European Union and the French government.
The aim of the program was to raise Kilwa's profile by promoting its little-known natural and cultural resources. Indeed, although Kilwa holds a key place in the history of East Africa, it lacks the appeal of the great sites of northern Tanzania. The World Heritage status of the two islands has not attracted enough visitors to sustain the local economy. The project therefore set out to identify and promote other available resources to encourage visitors to stay longer, so that local populations could benefit more fully from the economic spin-offs of tourism. The project was structured around 7 activities:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Heritage resource management, which took the form of around a hundred meetings and workshops on various heritage resources. This activity was continuous over the 3 years.<\/li>\n
  2. The inventory of available cultural and natural resources, carried out in 2014. The results of this inventory are published in a downloadable catalog on the CRAterre website.<\/li>\n
  3. Promoting these resources locally, nationally and internationally in 2015 and 2016, and equipping the sites to enhance the visitor experience.<\/li>\n
  4. The construction of two blocks of guest rooms in two inland villages in 2016. Both structures are made of earth, using the cob technique, like the other houses in the village.<\/li>\n
  5. The construction of a tourist information center in 2015, also using local materials including stone, earth, wood, bamboo and a palm leaf roof.<\/li>\n
  6. Promoting local architectural and urban values, in 2015 and 2016 with the publication of a book promoting sustainable building techniques and materials in Kilwa.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
