News > Séminaire Patrimoine 2014 : la conservation des architectures de terre sur les sites archéologiques. Nouvelles pratiques et perspectives

May, 26-28 2014

To better meet the social expectations linked to the development and enhancement of archaeological heritage, archaeologists and architects who specialize in heritage site conservation are required to work as part of interdisciplinary teams, right from the start of excavation operations. These practices, developing on many sites around the world favor the emergence of new strategies in response to cross-questioning involving the following: The roles and responsibilities of stakeholders, particularly of archaeologists and architects, involved in archaeological heritage management processes. The strategic tools and techniques that are currently being used to minimize the damage on earthen vestiges, while pursuing archaeological research studies.
This seminar will bring together archaeologists, architects, site managers and professionals in charge of cultural policies in various countries (Afghanistan, Armenia, United States, France, Iran, Kuwait, Uzbekistan, Sudan, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, ...) and from many institutions (UNESCO, ICCROM, GETTY, WMF, ICOMOS, ICHTTO, UCL, CNRS, DRAC, EHESS, EPHE, IFPO, LRMH, ...). Over a period of three days, exchanges between experts on new practices of excavation and conservation of earthen architectures in archaeological contexts will enable to shed light on perspectives for research and training at the crossroads of disciplines, and to share recommendations so as to improve practices.

Introduction conference: J.C. Margueron, directeur d’Etudes émérite à l’Ecole pratique des hautes études
